Hope as Strategy: Continuing the Work Together

Dear VISIONS Community,

As we move into May, I’ve been reflecting on the resilience it takes to hold steady during times of uncertainty—and the quiet, persistent hope that still fuels our work. This season has not been easy. We continue to feel the ripple effects of a chilling political climate, funding hesitations, and the national retrenchment from equity work. And yet, here we are: still showing up, still centering healing across difference, still building relationships that matter.

Hope, in this context, isn’t naive. It’s strategic. It’s a commitment to seeing what’s possible even when systems seem resistant to change. It’s the daily choice to support people—our clients, our partners, and one another—in navigating complexity with integrity.

So, what does it mean to keep going—especially when the road gets harder? So many of us feel the shift in the air. Hard-won gains around equity, inclusion, and dignity are under pressure. The systems we’ve (sooo many of you) worked so hard to shape are being reshaped, often in ways that feel like steps backward.

AND, this is also where our deepest work begins.

At VISIONS, we talk about what it means to stand up within and against systems that weren’t built for everyone. When the system shuts the door, we don’t just find a window—we name the injustice, we hold the door open for others, and we work to rebuild the structure entirely. It’s not just about surviving the system—it’s about transforming it.

Right now, that’s what so many of you are doing. Quietly. Boldly. Together.

  • You’re finding creative ways to keep inclusive practices alive.
  • You’re holding space for one another—emotionally, strategically, and relationally.
  • You’re helping us reimagine our own sustainability, including exploring a new membership model that could keep this work accessible and alive, even when external support wanes.

This is human work. It’s personal. Interpersonal. Institutional. Cultural.

I’ve learned that progress doesn’t always come through the systems as they are—it comes through how we choose to show up anyway. Through our small acts of courage, connection, and creativity.

This month, we’re deepening conversations about what sustainability looks like for VISIONS—both financially and relationally. We’re exploring a membership model that would allow us to stay connected to the people we’ve trained, coached, and collaborated with over the years. It’s one way we’re reimagining how our impact can continue even in uncertain times. [If you are interested in seeing the Survey Monkey we are sending out, please see here, and feel free to respond, as well.]

As always, I want to thank each of you for your commitment, your care, and the energy you bring to this work. Whether you’ve been facilitating sessions, preparing proposals, supporting logistics, or holding space for a colleague, you are part of what makes VISIONS who we are.

Thank you for continuing to be part of that legacy. We’re still here. We’re still building. And we’re not done yet.

Let’s continue forward—with hope as our strategy, and with each other as our foundation.

Warmly,

A Note from Stephanie, Board Treasurer

Thank you to everyone who joined our Community Call last Friday. It was a rich and heartfelt conversation about where we are as an organization and the opportunities ahead. If you missed it, you can watch the recording HERE.

As we continue to think collectively about VISIONS’ future, we’re asking for your feedback and ideas. After reviewing the recording, we want to hear from you on how you think we can best support the organization during this time.

  • Consultants: Please send your reflections to Jeanne and Rick.
  • Board Members: Send your feedback directly to me.
  • Staff: Share your input with Elika.

All feedback should be submitted by Thursday, May 15 so we can bring your voices into our upcoming Board Meeting next weekend, where we’ll be workshopping solutions and next steps together.

Thank you for your continued commitment and care.

Warmly,

Stephanie Blount, MBA

Board Treasurer, VISIONS, Inc.

From Senior Director of Consulting and Programs

We are currently finishing up with scheduling the PACE workshops for the next year. Thanks to all folks who have responded to the request for interest in leading one of these workshops.

In this current challenge of the attack on the work that we support clients in doing, it has been obvious that while some are directly affected by the EOs, others are clearly scared to engage in work that may put them ‘on the radar’ of those who are seeking to expose organizations as ‘DEI’ pursuers. We are still committed to all of our work in the many ways that we have supported organizations, and we are also in the process of reaching out to organizations that we have worked with in the past to determine if they are interested in revisiting a relationship. We have found that we have had some positive responses. So this is a request to our larger consultant community to encourage folks to reach out to their relationships that they have had in the past to reconnect and see if there may be similar interest expressed.

We are also continuing to move forward in our developing additional strategies around focusing on particular sectors to pursue potential clients. There are meetings that are taking place for these sectors. Please see the following:

We sent out a recent email to Consultants (on April 25) that has information about our Managing Transitions curriculum and how clients have been impacted by multiple changes as a result of layoffs, firings, elimination of programs, etc. We encourage everyone to view the videos that we have sent out related to this transitions model.

June 6 Community Check in: Pitching VISIONS Workshop, Part 2

How can we best cultivate more work and support new and returning clients in these times? It’s been 3 months since the last Pitching VISIONS workshop in Feb., and participants had been interested in meeting again, so let’s continue the conversation. We will discuss the language we use strategically, what we can offer that is particularly relevant and useful in this time (i.e., Managing Transitions, FAM, offerings for specific industries i.e., faith-based contemplative action spaces). Marketing resources and workshop agendas here.
