Event Description

Our PACE (Personal Approach to Change and Equity) Level I workshop is a thorough, intimate introduction to the strategies involved in creating multicultural environments. When you complete this course, we believe you will have the skills necessary to identify and challenge “isms” in yourself, in others, and within organizations. This session typically stresses increased learning at the emotional level, as well as new cognitive information and opportunities for practicing new approaches.

PACE Level I is the foundational workshop offered by VISIONS. When you complete this course, we believe you will have the skills necessary to:

Identify previously unconscious biases and misinformation in yourself, in others, and in organizations.
Communicate more effectively across difference.
Recognize personal, interpersonal, institutional and cultural barriers to inclusion.
Understand the ongoing personal effects of historical and contemporary exclusion and oppression, for example, the effects of sexism on both men and women.
Facilitate change in groups and organizations to create a supportive environment of inclusion.

Event Description

At the end of the PACE I workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Apply VISIONS Skills for Effective Communication Across Difference
  2. Identify their historically included and historically excluded group memberships, and demonstrate awareness of how social and hierarchical power dynamics can operate in personal and group interactions.
  3. Demonstrate familiarity with VISIONS Three Dimensions of Change and Multicultural Process of Change models
  4. Describe how oppression and change can manifest at the personal, interpersonal, institutional, and cultural levels.
  5. Describe and apply VISIONS Modern Oppression and Survival/Internalized Oppression framework to an analysis of dysfunctional interpersonal encounters
  6. Utilize VISIONS’ Feedback as an Antidote to Oppression framework to analyze and mitigate the impacts of negative conditional and unconditional feedback in interpersonal and group settings
