The panel featured speakers active in this important area of work, including:


Chris Dickerson is a VISIONS Board member, and the co-founder of Players For the Planet. Chris is a former MLB professional baseball player with the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and the Cleveland Indians. In 2009, Dickerson had the opportunity to speak at the United Nations as part of UN Climate Change Conference (COP 15). He co-founded Players For the Planet, an organization that brings professional athletes together to inspire communities and build awareness of the growing environmental crises.


Derrick Z. Jackson is a VISIONS consultant and longtime journalist. A Pulitzer Prize finalist, his writing last year on environmental injustice, the racist response to COVID-19 and poor graduation rates for black college athletes for The Union of Concerned Scientists, Grist.org and ESPN's The Undefeated made him the 2021 Scripps Howard winner for Excellence in Opinion and this year's winner in both Social Justice and Sports commentary from the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.  He is the co-author and photographer of “The Puffin Plan," which won the first-place Gold Award in Tee Nonfiction from the Independent Book Publishers Association.

Adrianna Quintero is Energy Foundation’s first Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Adrianna began her career as an attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council where she pioneered work to increase advocacy around the disproportionate impacts of environmental pollution on communities or color, and the need for increased BIPOC leadership in the climate and clean energy space. Adrianna is an expert on the importance of relationship-based partnerships, collaborative engagement, and diverse inclusive leadership in delivering equitable outcomes for those most impacted by climate change.


Keynote Message from Reverend Mariama White-Hammond

Rev. Mariama White-Hammond is a pastor, advocate, facilitator, and farmer whose work spans issues and sectors as she seeks to create a more just and sustainable world. She was recently appointed Chief of Energy, Environment and Open Spaces for the City of Boston under Mayor Kim Janey. She is the founding pastor of New Roots AME Church, a multi-racial, multi-class community that is innovating new ways of doing church. She was a fellow with the Green Justice Coalition, chair of the New England Grassroots Environmental Fund and the co-chair of RENEW New England.


The event will be hosted by VISIONS Board member, Jude Goldman.


The panel discussion will be moderated by VISIONS Innovations Manager, Lawrence Alexander.
